NEW YORK, January 25, 2010'-"Highlighting a rare instance of artistic collaboration between Christians and Jews in the Middle Ages, Uneasy Communion: Jews, Christians, and the Altarpieces of Medieval Spain, on view at the Museum of Biblical Art from February 19 through May 30, 2010, explores the coexistence of these two groups in 14th- and 15th-century Spain and provides a nuanced picture of interfaith relationships and dialogue during this period. Over 30 panel paintings, manuscripts, ceramic tiles and Jewish ceremonial objects from this period will be on display in this groundbreaking exhibit.

On Sunday, January 10, 2010, MOBIA hosted the talented Elizabeth Swados and musicians in the Main Gallery. The group performed songs from Bible Women, a collection of songs written by Liz Swados in 1995, about Jewish heroines such as Lilith, Sarah and Ruth. Elizabeth Swados, a faculty member at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts and renowned musician, director, and composer, has received five Tony Award nominations and three Obie Awards for her theatrical productions. Tune in starting Sunday, December 6 for a CBS religion special about art and the Bible. "The Art of "The Book"" features an interview with MOBIA Executive Director Ena Heller discussing the Bible's influence on art. The program also highlights our current exhibition by noted NYC artist Tobi Kahn which delves into the relationship between space, objects and the sacred in the 21st century.

Guess what? "NYC & Co.'s Extreme Local" campaign just selected the Museum of Biblical Art fourth on its top 10 list of Great Things to See and Do on the Upper West Side! Visit their website and you'll find information on MOBIA's current exhibition, Tobi Kahn: Sacred Spaces for the 21st Century, including the 411 on a fun new feature. A magnetic wall has been installed across from the main gallery, inviting viewers of all ages to anonymously share their impressions of our current exhibition.
